About the Post-Verification of Origin

Post-Verification of Origin Post-Verification of Origin
What is a Post-Verification of Origin?
Post-Verification of Origin refers to the process of validating the origin of imported goods to ensure compliance with trade agreements, tariffs, and regulations. The country of origin is critical because it can affect the duties and taxes applied to the goods, as well as their eligibility for preferential treatment under free trade agreements (FTAs) or other trade arrangements. The BOC conducts verification procedures to ensure that the goods meet the origin criteria specified in the relevant trade agreements. This may involve checking the production process, sourcing of raw materials, and other documentation provided by the exporter.

Significance of Post-Verification of Origin

image
A series of administrative procedures to check whether the origin requirements (origin determination standards, origin documents, etc.) specified in the agreement or domestic law are met and to take sanctions in case of violation.

In addition to the Post-Verification of Origins, all preferential requirements
(transaction parties, tax rates, transportation routes, application procedures, etc.) established by related agreements and domestic laws are checked for false information and any necessary measures are taken.

In order to confirm the appropriateness of the negotiated tariff applied with preferential treatment and the country of origin of imported and exported goods, the country of origin is investigated for domestic importers, exporters, producers, institutions issuing origin documents, and exporters and producers of contracting countries.
